The Constitution of the Kingdom of Bahrain was decreed by King Shakih Hamad on February 14, 2002. Article 2 states Islam is the official religion and legislation is guided by Islamic Shari’a. However, Article 18 protects against discrimination based on religion and Article 22 protects freedom of religious thought.
