Freedom of Association	History	The Constitution of Mauritius, adopted in 1968 after the country’s independence, protects the right to association. Freedom of the Press	History	Article 12 of Mauritius’s 1968 Constitution protects press freedom: “Nothing contained in or done under the authority of any law shall be held to be inconsistent with or in contravention of this section to the extent that the law in question makes provision…for the purpose of…regulating the technical administration or the technical operation of telephony, telegraphy, posts, wireless broadcasting, television, public exhibitions or public entertainments" (Constitute Project, “Mauritius’ Constitution of 1968 with Amendments through 2016” ).
Privacy Rights	History	The sole constitution of Mauritius from 1968 is limited in what it says about privacy rights. Voting Rights and Suffrage	History	Under Article 42, a person may be an elector if they are a citizen of at least 18 years of age and reside in the constituency in which they wish to vote. Electors shall elect members of The Parliament of Mauritius which consists of 70 members and elects the President.
